About the Artist | Julie Friedman

Julie Friedman has worked in multiple media: painting/ drawing, printmaking, cut paper
and artist books over the course of her artistic career.

In June 2017, she discovered the art of Eco Printing through the serendipity of an old
high school friend gifting her with an eco-printed card she made. Julie was fascinated by
the process and began her journey. By the end of that summer she had fallen in love
with the process and had dozens of eco printed scarves in her studio. Her first art fair
was local and very successful and thus her second career (maybe 3rd ?) was born. Since
2017 she has participated in over 70 art fairs, mostly in Ohio.

The Side Porch Design Studio was aptly named when she moved her summer production of eco prints out of her studio and on to her side porch, located on 10 acres of farm land in NE Ohio.

Julie taught art (Drawing, Printmaking) at multiple universities for over 30 years. She
was awarded an Ohio Individual Artist Fellowship Grant in 2003 and in 2004 a 3-month
summer residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA through the
generosity of the Ohio Arts Council. In 2016 she had a 2-week artist residency in Glen
Arbor, MI.

Julie Friedman received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison-
Printmaking and Book Arts. She has a BA in Interior Design and BFA in Printmaking,
both from Kent State University.
